Beast Out Of November Internationals Due To Injury
Zimbabwean born Springbok (South African rugby team) prop Tendai Mtawarira has been ruled out of South Africa’s November internationals due to an Injury.
Mtawarira,33, also known as beast wont be adding to his 107 caps again this year since he sustained a neck injury in the narrow loss to New Zealand in Pretoria earlier this month, in the Rugby Championship. A preliminary squad was named on Sunday by coach Rassie Erasmus comprising of 20 players for the forthcoming tour to the United Kingdom and France.
The South African rugby team will be missing the experienced prop but there will be likely return for powerful number eight Duane Vermeulen, Trevor Nyakane and Lood De Jager after being named in the training squad on Sunday. Vermeulen was a key figure in the Springboks’ 2-1 home series win over England in June, but was released to play in Japan during the Rugby Championship. De Jager is back in the Springbok mix following a lengthy injury lay-off, while Nyakane, who joined the Springboks for their last two Rugby Championship to continue his rehabilitation and conditioning, is also included in the group.
Rassie Erasmus commented that “It is good to welcome back a player of the caliber of Lood,he will add experience to a position where we already have some very good competition for places. Duane, of course, will also bring similar valuable experience to the group,”
“It’s a tough tour and our preparation time is limited, but we have set ourselves some goals and as has been the case the entire season, we would like to see the squad continue to grow as a group and add to our depth with the 2019 Rugby World Cup less than a year away,” commented Erasmus.
The majority of squad players have assembled for camp which is a week long before leaving for London next Saturday. The Squad is comprises of only locally-based players as overseas-based players and those involved in the 2018 Currie Cup Final not considered for the Stellenbosch camp. The squad for the four-game tour will be announced on Saturday.
